Stell dir vor, du kaufst etwas im Laden. Die Verpackung brauchst du nur einmal — trotzdem hebt Linux sie auf. Für immer. Genau das passiert beim Installieren von Programmen: Die heruntergeladenen Pakete bleiben liegen, obwohl sie erledigt sind.
Imagine buying something in a shop. You need the packaging only once — yet Linux keeps it. Forever. That is what happens when installing programs: the downloaded packages stay behind, although they have done their job.
Dazu kommen Zwischenspeicher, alte Protokolle und Reste längst entfernter Programme. Zusammen schnell mehrere Gigabyte — und niemand sagt einem das.
On top come caches, old logs and leftovers of programs removed long ago. Together that quickly adds up to several gigabytes — and nobody ever tells you.
Es gibt Programme dafür, aber sie legen einem hundert Häkchen vor, sind englisch, und einige richten echten Schaden an. Rikus Cleanup nimmt dir die Entscheidung ab — und wer will, bestimmt im Handbetrieb doch alles selbst.

Zwei Wege, wie du es benutzt: Automatisch räumt auf einen Knopfdruck alles auf, was gefahrlos weg kann. Handbetrieb klappt die Liste auf, und du hakst selbst ab. Beim ersten Start werden zwei Fragen gestellt — Papierkorb mitleeren? alte Systemkerne mit entfernen? — und danach nie wieder; ändern kannst du das jederzeit.
Two ways to use it: Automatic clears everything that can safely go with a single press. Manual opens the list and you tick the boxes yourself. On first start it asks two questions — also empty the wastebasket? also remove old kernels? — and never again; you can change that whenever you like.

Und was es dir sagt, bevor etwas passiert: Es nennt die Menge in Zahlen („hier liegt einiges", „die Platte wird eng", „alles sauber"), zeigt unter Das wird aufgeräumt jeden Punkt einzeln — und erst danach kommt die Passwortabfrage. Nichts geschieht ungefragt.
And what it tells you before anything happens: it names the amount in plain numbers (“quite a bit has piled up”, “disk space is running out”, “all clean”), lists every item under This will be cleaned — and only then asks for the password. Nothing happens unasked.

Bisher musstest du für jede neue Fassung wieder auf diese Seite kommen und die Datei von Hand holen. Ab Fassung 1.14 geht es auch anders: Rikus Cleanup hat eine eigene Paketquelle. Das ist dieselbe Technik, mit der dein System auch alle anderen Programme aktuell hält. Du trägst sie einmal ein — danach erscheint jede neue Fassung ganz normal bei deinen Systemaktualisierungen, ohne dass du etwas tun musst.
Until now you had to come back to this page for every new version and fetch the file by hand. From version 1.14 there is another way: Rikus Cleanup has its own package source. It is the same technique your system uses to keep all other programs current. You add it once — after that every new version simply shows up with your normal system updates, with nothing left for you to do.
Schritt 1 — den Schlüssel holen. Damit erkennt dein Rechner, dass die Pakete wirklich von uns kommen und unterwegs niemand etwas verändert hat. Auf frisch installierten Rechnern fehlt oft das kleine Programm curl – der Befehl holt es gleich mit:

On first start the program asks for your unlock code. You get it free of charge using the button at the top of this page — name, e-mail, country, and the code arrives by mail at once. You type it once and are never asked again.
Wenn du das Programm schon hast: Du musst nichts neu installieren. Trage die Quelle ein wie oben, und die neue Fassung wird dir als ganz normales Update angeboten — auch von Rikus Updateall. In derselben Quelle liegen auch Rikus Software, Rikus Updateall und Rikus Zram.

Das passiert auf Debian 13 und LMDE 7, wenn dort das Zusatzlager backports eingeschaltet ist und schon Pakete daraus benutzt werden, zum Beispiel für Hyprland. Dann passen zwei Bausteine nicht zusammen. So klappt es:

Papierkorb und alte Systemkerne sind Geschmackssache. Du wirst einmal gefragt — die Antwort wird gemerkt.
Wastebasket and old kernels are a matter of taste. You are asked once — the answer is remembered.
Andere Aufräumer werfen den alten Systemkern wortlos mit weg. Hier ist er ein eigener Punkt, nie vorausgewählt.
Other cleaners silently remove the previous kernel. Here it is a separate item, never preselected.
Vor jedem Aufräumen siehst du, was genau weggeht — bei Programmresten mit allen Paketnamen.

Dokumente, Bilder, Musik, Einstellungen — nichts davon wird angefasst.
Documents, pictures, music, settings — none of it is touched.
Danach zeigt das Fenster, wie viel Platz wirklich frei wurde. Die Zahl vorher stammt aus dem Trockenlauf.

Der einfache Weg: Auf „Kostenlos anfordern" klicken und die Datei anschließend doppelt anklicken. Die Software-Verwaltung deines Systems öffnet sich und installiert das Programm.

Meldet dein System „Nicht unterstützte Datei … auf Befehlszeile angegeben“, ist die Datei dort nicht vorhanden — das Paket ist in Ordnung. Meist stimmt der Ordner nicht, oder man sitzt über eine Fernverbindung auf einem anderen Rechner.
Important: run the command on the machine where the file actually is. If your system says “unsupported file … on the command line”, the file is not there — the package is fine. Usually it is the wrong folder, or you are on a different machine over a remote connection.
